A Career Shaped by Design, Craft, and Construction
From Aspen's most ambitious residential projects to a multidisciplinary design practice serving the Roaring Fork Valley.
Janet Lightfoot
Janet Lightfoot is the President and owner of The Lightfoot Group LLC, a design and project management firm serving Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley. Her career spans more than three decades and reflects a broad command of architectural interiors, kitchen and cabinetry design, window coverings, decorative materials, and construction management.
Janet moved to Aspen in 1978 from Lubbock, Texas, after graduating from Texas Tech University with a degree in Marketing. After working in a variety of roles during her early years in Aspen, she discovered her passion for construction and design in 1990 when she was hired as the assistant to the owner's representative overseeing the construction of a 55,000-square-foot residence in Starwood.

Career History
Each chapter built upon the last — from construction to interiors, from real estate to European cabinetry.
1990
Through her relationships with the ranch owner who sold the property and with the client's liaison, Janet became part of the extended project team for more than a decade. The experience provided a rare apprenticeship within a world-class residential project, exposing her to every phase of the building process—from architectural coordination and material selection to construction sequencing and design collaboration. It was an education in how complex projects come together, shaped not only by drawings and specifications but by craftsmanship, coordination, and thoughtful decision-making.
Early 1990s
Upon completion of that residence, Janet was entrusted with the design and project management of Mirabella Restaurant in Aspen. The project blended architectural detailing with interior elements inspired by Mediterranean traditions, translating cultural influences into spatial composition, materials, and atmosphere.
1992 – 1996
Throughout the 1990s, Janet expanded her work across residential remodels and interior design projects throughout the valley. In 1992 she obtained her real estate license, and in 1996 she founded her own firm, originally known as J Lightfoot Real Estate, which later became Lightfoot Real Estate LLC.
"Working directly with one of Italy's most respected kitchen manufacturers gave her hands-on exposure to the engineering, ergonomics, and architectural integration that define European cabinetry design."
2002
In 2002, through her real estate company, Janet met Dario Snaidero, the owner and founder of Snaidero Kitchens from Udine, Italy. Snaidero wanted to establish a presence in Aspen and asked Janet to locate a retail showroom and manage its operation. As part of that opportunity, the company trained her in the principles and discipline of European kitchen design.
This experience marked a turning point in Janet's career. Working directly with one of Italy's most respected kitchen manufacturers gave her hands-on exposure to the engineering, ergonomics, and architectural integration that define European cabinetry design. The experience expanded her work beyond interiors into the specialized world of kitchen environments, where design, precision manufacturing, and spatial planning converge.
The Following Two Decades
Over the following two decades, Janet developed deep expertise in kitchen environments and built-in architectural cabinetry. Her work integrates cabinetry, countertops, decorative tile, wood surfaces, and precision hardware to create cohesive spaces that serve as both the home's functional and visual center.
As The Lightfoot Group evolved, the showroom's scope expanded to include window coverings, fabrics, drapery hardware, decorative tile, furniture, and custom surfaces. These elements allow a project's design language to extend seamlessly throughout the home while addressing both aesthetic and functional considerations such as light control, texture, proportion, and material continuity.
Today
Today, the studio works closely with architects, builders, and homeowners to guide projects from early concept and visualization through construction and installation. Janet's approach reflects a lifetime of experience across multiple dimensions of design, including cabinetry, spatial planning, textiles, materials coordination, and construction management.
From her formative apprenticeship on one of Aspen's most ambitious residential projects to her leadership of a multidisciplinary design practice, Janet's career has been shaped by curiosity, collaboration, and an enduring respect for craftsmanship. Her work continues to focus on creating spaces that are both beautifully designed and thoughtfully built.
