Choosing the right fabric starts with understanding how light and privacy interact. Openness factor, color, and weave weight all influence the experience in the room.
Sheer & Semi-Sheer
High openness fabrics (10%–14%) that filter light gently. Best for living areas and rooms where the view matters. Minimal glare reduction.
Translucent
Mid-range openness (3%–5%) for balanced light diffusion, privacy during the day, and meaningful glare and heat gain reduction.
Solar Screen
Tight 1%–3% weaves that stop up to 99% of UV rays. Dark fabrics preserve outward views while controlling glare — ideal for Colorado sun exposure.
Blackout
Complete room darkening for bedrooms, media rooms, and spaces requiring full privacy. Coated backing blocks all incoming light.
Note on color and performance: Dark fabrics favor glare reduction and maintain view-through clarity. Light-colored fabrics deliver better heat reduction and a softer, more filtered interior atmosphere — but with reduced view-through. Insolroll offers motorized operation across all collections — from corded manual to fully integrated smart-home systems. All motorized shades are child- and pet-safe, eliminating exposed cords entirely.
Hard-Wired
Permanent in-wall wiring for the most reliable performance. Ideal for new construction and whole-home integration with Lutron, Somfy, or other smart-home systems. Remote, app, and voice-control compatible.
Battery-Powered
No wiring required — ideal for retrofits, rentals, and spaces where running new electrical isn't practical. Long battery life with rechargeable options. Remote-controlled as standard.
