John Boos maple butcher block in a custom kitchen

John Boos®
Butcher Block

The Original Butcher Block,
Reimagined for the Home

John Boos has been shaping wood work surfaces for more than a century, beginning with the heavy blocks first created for blacksmiths and later refined for butcher shops and professional kitchens.

Today, that same commitment to craftsmanship lives on in kitchen furniture built from Northern Hard Rock Maple — delivering both the visual warmth of natural wood and the performance of a professional work surface.

For The Lightfoot Group, John Boos represents the meeting of utility and beauty: chef-grade tools that belong in refined residential spaces.

Wooden Countertops

Four North American hardwoods. Three construction methods. Each combination delivers its own material character — from the clean architectural grain of full-length rails to the bold geometry of end grain.

John Boos butcher block countertops are available in three distinct construction types, each suited to a different aesthetic and functional priority. Ultra-Premium Edge Grain uses continuous full-length rails milled from a single species, producing a clean, consistent surface with a refined, almost architectural character. Blended Edge Grain combines boards of varying natural figure within the same species — more warmth, more depth, and a livelier overall appearance.

Premium End Grain — the classic butcher block pattern — reveals the cross-section of the wood for maximum visual impact and a surface that self-heals with regular maintenance. All three constructions are available in Northern Hard Rock Maple, American Black Walnut, and American Cherry. Ultra-Premium and Blended Edge Grain also extend to Appalachian Red Oak. The Lightfoot Group can advise on species selection, sizing, edge profiles, and finish treatments.

A Reputation Built
Block by Block

John Boos pieces are trusted in both professional and residential kitchens because they are built around what matters most: durable hardwoods, time-tested joinery, and work surfaces designed to be used every day.

Maple remains a favorite for its strength, resilience, and clean visual character. Over time, it develops a patina that makes a kitchen feel lived-in rather than merely styled.

For homes where the kitchen is the center of life, John Boos offers something increasingly rare: furniture that performs like a tool and ages like an heirloom.

John Boos at Work

A John Boos block doesn't announce itself — it earns its place. The grain tightens with use. The oil settles deeper. The surface becomes something a factory finish never could: a record of the kitchen it lives in.
